Studying with a disability

We offer assistance and support to all students and prospective students with disabilities through our social and psychological counseling services, and we work closely with the universities. Suitable dorm rooms are also available at our Chemnitz and Zwickau campuses.

Students may have various health conditions, both visible and invisible. These conditions include, for example:

The participation of people with disabilities in education is enshrined in German law, including in the Basic Law (Articles 3 and 20), the Higher Education Framework Act (§2(4)), the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the respective state higher education laws, and examination regulations.

For all students and prospective students with disabilities, the Chemnitz-Zwickau Student Services Organization offers help and support through its social and psychological counseling services and works closely with the universities. In addition, suitable dorm rooms are available at the Chemnitz and Zwickau campuses. Faculty members can also contact the counseling centers for information.

The Chemnitz University of Technology (TU Chemnitz) offers counseling for students and prospective students with disabilities. For students at the Zwickau University of Applied Sciences (WH Zwickau), information and support are available through the representative for the interests of people with disabilities.

The Information and Counseling Center for Studies and Disabilities (IBS) of the German Student Services (Deutsches Studierendenwerk) offers comprehensive information and counseling on studying with a disability. (Handbook "Studying and Disabilities").
